new photo blog

i started this blog in 2006, and it's shifted along with my interests through the years. it's been witness to a lot of learning for me...

still, i feel that i need a home for my photography -- so from now on, i'll be posting my pictures on the journal on my reworked website. if you like my photos, you might decide to follow me there!

my first post is here -- check it out!

as for this blog, i'm not sure what will happen. i don't think i'm willing to let it go, and certainly i'll keep it as an archive, but i need some time to figure it out.

for those of you that pop in from time to time, thanks for the visits and encouragement.

up and ahead

up and ahead
view on black

i saw an image the other day -- on facebook -- that stunned me. it was by polish artist, joanna maria rybczynska. i first saw it in BW and then also in color. she has more similar images if you poke around her work.

i just loved everything about it, not least of which the fact that it reminds me of m.c. escher's distorted perspectives (i'm a big fan -- big fan).

so a week later i was at santorini, and i found myself in the fortress at emporio, a labyrinth of a town, with tiny openings, narrow streets within immense walls, where people once fled to for protection when the area was under attack.

i found this bit of space that was just perfect for this kind of photo, so i shamelessly pinched the idea and snapped away with my fisheye lens.
