i didn't get too lazy after all and actually went to
the reforestation project on pendeli on sunday morning. a surprising crowd of people showed up -- i can't estimate because groups were coming in from different sides of the mountain. i'll update this post with numbers if i see them in the press.

civil servants, private companies, scouts, universities, schools -- it looked like every organization had people there. there were children and senior citizens, natives and expats. it was very well set up -- each organization had a sign on the road indicating what section of the area to work on, the ground was pretty much already prepared, and the trees dropped off at intervals to help the work go quickly and smoothly.

it didn't take too long for a light rain to start, which was probably a good thing for the new trees.

i think people left with a sense of achievement, solidarity, and a feeling of having had fun!
