That's pretty nice, admittedly, but I need to remind you that even though these minimalistic white statues seem so cool and sleek to us today, they used to be painted in oh-so kitsch colors by the people who made them...

i know that this is the case of many periods of ancient greek art but i don't remember examples or illustrations from the cycladic period.
ReplyDeletei'm sure that they were painted, though. they didn't sculpt eyes -- they probably painted them on.
and yes, i like the look they have today. alien cultures like them unpainted too, it seems.
