everything old is new again

cycladic art, a statue no less, on an episode of star trek: voyager, in a far-off corner of the universe.

it's cool, it's sleek, it's futuristic looking, but it was made on earth, in greece, approximately between 2000-3000 b.c.

any fans remember which episode it's from?

7 pearls of wisdom:

  1. Time and Again :) from season 1 of Voyager

  2. (I arrived here from your June, 2008 article about the opening ceremony of the olympic games)

That's pretty nice, admittedly, but I need to remind you that even though these minimalistic white statues seem so cool and sleek to us today, they used to be painted in oh-so kitsch colors by the people who made them...

  3. i know that this is the case of many periods of ancient greek art but i don't remember examples or illustrations from the cycladic period.

i'm sure that they were painted, though. they didn't sculpt eyes -- they probably painted them on.

and yes, i like the look they have today. alien cultures like them unpainted too, it seems.
